CHIC FeTE DIY Series: Washi Tape Balloon

Hi guys!

I'm so excited to share with you our first ever DIY post!  Today, I'm going to show you how to jazz up your balloons using washi tape!  The wonderful ladies of Carousel Paper & Co provided all of the pretty washi tapes for this DIY Washi Tape Balloon post.  Carousel Paper & Co is a fabulous online packaging and party supply store carrying everything from glittery scalloped garlands (as pictured below) to colourful mini honeycomb balls.  Be sure to stop by their Etsy shop to see more of what they have to offer!

Jacky and I wanted to feature a unique + minimalist balloon for our Chic Fete styled shoot. We decided to use Carousel Paper's gold scalloped garland as our tassel and to incorporate their washi tape by cutting it into even strips, layering them on top of another to make a + sign and sticking them onto the balloon in a staggered pattern to create this fun Giant Washi Tape Balloon which was perfect for our Kate Spade inspired styled shoot.

We were so happy with the way it turned out!  It was super easy and inexpensive to do too. Woo-hoo!  We thought it would be the perfect DIY tutorial to share with you

So, I decided to recreate the look on some smaller balloons with my handy helper, Isla, and give you some step-by-steps to creating your own Washi Tape Balloon. 
YOU WILL NEED

• Balloons

• Washi tape - I get mine from Carousel Paper & Co
• Scissors
• ribbon/scalloped garland - Carousel Paper & Co

DIRECTIONS

1. Inflate the balloons with helium, and tie down with ribbon or a scalloped garland
2. Cut strips of washi tape into any length or shape you would like
3. stick onto the balloons.

And... TA-DAA!!  It's as easy as that!  My daughter had so much fun customizing her balloons with washi tape.  It definitely made for a fun activity, and something any child can do for their special day. 

Turn our idea into something more!  Give these different styles and patterns a try:

• Cut washi tape into triangles for a mod look
• Use different colour washi tapes cut into small pieces to create a colourful confetti effect
• Use washi tape to customize a balloon with a number or initial
• Spell it out: BOO!, YIPEE!, LUV U, XOXO
